Update - Cricket Fixtures and Lockdown

5 Feb 2021 by David Bentley

I wish to personally thank all members of the Kenwick Cricket Club for their patience and resilience throughout the lockdown period. It has been a disappointing time with the postponement of the T20 grand final after a fantastic win against Armadale in the semi final just before the lockdown. There have been no updates as yet to when the Grand Final has been rescheduled to.

Members may already be aware that the SMCA have cancelled this weekend’s fixtures. This decision was made based on little information from the State Government and without an awareness of the 8:30pm press conference at the time.

At that press conference, the WA Premier last night announced a pathway that WA will take out of lockdown, contingent on there being no further locally acquired cases of COVID-19.

If there are no locally acquired cases today, the lockdown will end at 6pm tonight, with restrictions in place including the mandatory wearing of masks, the 4 per square metre rule and limits on patrons at venues until 12:01am on Sunday 14 February 2021.

One of the restrictions in place post lockdown is the wearing of masks outside your home. Consequently, the wearing of masks WILL BE MANDATORY at all times at the Kenwick Cricket Club by everyone. The only exceptions will be for “strenuous exercise outdoors”. So, if you are not batting, bowling or fielding in a game, or batting or bowling in the nets, you WILL be required to wear a mask at all times.

This will be enforced for your own protection and the protection of others. WA Police have also been enforcing this and are likely to target places like parks and open spaces.

For those wishing to have a hit this weekend, an unofficial training session will take place at the Mills 2 nets on Saturday 6 February 2021 at 10am.

Further updates from the SMCA will come to hand after their next meeting on Monday.

Once again, thank you for your patience and resilience. Further updates will be released as they come to hand.
